Wendy Ethard, Vitality Coach & Nutritionist
Our Wonder woman of the week is Wendy Ethard. Wendy describes herself as a Food Lover (not a Food Fighter) Born in Suriname and raised in the Netherlands, she’s familiar with food being an important ‘love language’. She finds ways for herself and her clients to still enjoy food and feel strong, vital and healthy!
She started The Vitality Game to help and encourage all women to make their own rules in this life long Vitality Game — the most important game that you will ever play.
Your Values
Tammy: What were you put on this Earth to do? In other words, what’s your life’s purpose?
Wendy: Helping women to find their balance in eating the foods they love and still stay (or become) strong, fit and vital, so they can live their best lives.
Tammy: What role does your work play in your life? How does it embody your values?
Wendy: My work is an excuse to do what I LOVE! I love food, I love women, and I strongly believe that every woman should invest in finding her personal right balance and put her own vitality at #1.
I also believe that vitality and vanity can go together perfectly. For me it’s about FEELING good on the inside and LOOKING good on the outside as well!
Tammy: What message would you like to give to other women?
Wendy: Ladies, give yourself permission to prioritise your vitality! Not only for now, in this moment but also invest on how you will feel and look in about 5 or 10 years from now.
Dressing Your Values
Tammy: Tell us about your relationship with clothing. What do you think about the act of get dressed? What role does clothing serve for you? Does it hold a certain meaning or significance?
Wendy: I love clothes. I love to dress up but kind of in a casual way. I am a great fan of the Parisian street style — as if you haven’t really paid that much attention to looking cool, but you have — Ha!
I like to wear clothes that express how I feel in the moment and not be too serious about it. Wearing exactly what feels good in the right place and time makes me feel at ease, boosts my confidence and simply gives me joy.
Tammy: How has your relationship with clothing changed throughout your career?
Wendy: I am a huge fan of clutches and small bags. If you ask me, it can make or break any outfit! Throughout my career I’ve gathered a collection that is precious to me.
From Alexander Wang back and Yves Saint Laurent. I try to treat them all fairly and make sure they all see the daylight (or nighttime) from time to time! 😉
Also, the last few years I’ve been trying to mix vintage pieces with (high street) fashion and I’m aiming for a more sustainable wardrobe.
Tammy: Describe an outfit of yours that makes you feel like Wonder Woman when you wear it.
Wendy: I cannot describe just one outfit. I’d rather say casual chic — the Parisian way and then mostly the way French women of color wear it — with elegance combined with a subtle egde. It’s about finding that right balance, and when you do, it’s an absolute winner. I just love that!
Parting Thoughts
Tammy: Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Wendy: Don’t be boring or play it too safe. Dress up more! Especially Dutch women. I know we (or rather you) ride (y)our bikes a lot (screaming for practical clothes) but don’t fall into that trap too often. Please give yourself (and us) something nice to look at.
